Philips has released a new addition to its audio lineup with the Philips Fidelio x3 headphones, these are the successor to the previous model the X2HR. The headphones come in at a cool $349.99 though when keeping in mind these are audiophile headphones its a bit easier to swallow.
These are over the ear open back headphones with double layered ear shells that they say will reduce resonance and vibrations. For the drivers they 50 mm and use neodymium that is tilted at 15 degrees to fit the geometry of your ear for higher accuracy at higher frequencies.
The diaphragms use multiple polymer layers (the number isn’t specified) and also has a damping gel to minimize sound leakage. The ear cups are open-backed and has acoustically transparent Kvdray fabric which will allow air to flow through the fabric, to eliminate air pressure behind the diaphragm for a more comfortable experience.
Philips also says that it “combines performance, style and comfort to create a uniquely enjoyable listening experience as the music connoisseur’s choice, featuring the highest quality components ‘end to end’ The Philips Fidelio X3 is the latest version of its hugely popular open-back headset, much loved by both audiophiles and artists for their unique combination of natural, accurate sound quality, extreme comfort and stylish, luxury design”
They seem to be going after a warm mid-range with a powerful, but respectable level of bass. The press release states a “Tight and impactful sound with exceptional separation of instruments and voices with a clean and detailed high end.”
