Intel is releasing a discrete graphics card next year. Hopefully it will not require proprietary software/drivers to run properly.

Integrated Intel graphics don't need proprietary drivers, however when Intel update their CPU microcode, they use proprietary software.
Nvidia drivers are proprietary, however the Nouveau project provides Free drivers which allow Nvidia cards to run, though usually there is a performance hit. Despite professions that they would do more to help Free software, Nvidia have been the worst company Linus Torvalds has had to work with on GNU+Linux.
AMD drivers are proprietary.
The advisors to the CEOs must be complete imbeciles or actively wicked to not see there would be a huge demand for cleverly marketed Open Source hardware that ran on Free software.
